These Cities Have the Highest Auto Theft Rates
Nearly 750,000 cars are stolen in the United States each year. After seeing declines alongside overall crime rates, auto thefts saw a resurgence during the height of the pandemic. Smaller cities with fewer residents normally show a higher per-capita frequency than more densely populated places.
To determine America’s auto theft capitals, researchers at BuyAutoInsurance.com used data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, as well as the US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. Cities were ranked according to their respective car theft rates per 100,000 residents.
