6 Causes of Cancer Death

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, next only to heart diseases. This year, it’s estimated that 1.9 million Americans will contract the disease, and 609,360 will perish from it. Worldwide, cancer accounted for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020. That’s nearly one in six deaths. The mortality rate rises when cancer is diagnosed in its later stages.

A person contracts cancer when some of their body’s cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of their body. These cells may form tumors, which are lumps of tissue. Tumors can be cancerous or non-cancerous (benign). Cancerous or malignant tumors invade nearby tissues and can travel to distant places in the body to form new tumors in a process called metastasis.

Malignant tumors can lead to a patient’s death in several ways. Breast Cancer Car Donations lists six causes of cancer death:

1. Brain complications

Some cancer deaths can be attributed to complications, especially when the cancerous cells form or metastasize in an essential organ such as the brain. Once cancer metastasizes to other organs, it impedes the functions of those organs. When this happens, the disease becomes even more difficult to treat.

2. Malnourishment

For patients suffering from cancers affecting the digestive system, the disease causes blockages that prevent the body from absorbing proper nutrients. A common side effect of cancer treatment is the loss of appetite and the inability to keep down food. This causes the patient to suffer from fatigue, weakened immune system, and cognitive difficulties. All these can contribute to the patient’s death.

3. Insufficient oxygen

Tumors that develop in the lung can affect its functions and cause it to collapse. When this happens, infections can occur. This also renders the lung incapable of absorbing enough oxygen, which means the patient will experience trouble breathing, leading to their death.

4. Damage to the liver

If cancer spreads to the liver, it stops the organ from its functions of filtering toxins in the blood and maintaining chemical balances in the body. This can cause jaundice, weight loss, excessive calcium, nausea, and bloating in patients. Unchecked, this can cause death.

5. Calcium excess

If cancer affects the bones, this can cause the patient to deal with too much calcium in their system. When calcium is released into the bloodstream, it affects the functions of the heart, muscles, and kidneys. When the situation worsens, this leads to coma or death.

6. Issues with blood vessels

When cancer affects the blood and blood vessels, it increases the likelihood that it can travel to other organs such as the brain and lungs, which could be fatal for the patient.

You Can Make a Difference in the Lives of Breast Cancer Patients — Here’s How

Cancer kills its victims in various ways. However, even though there are no cures yet for any type of cancer, treatments may extend the lives of those who have been diagnosed with the disease.

Many people who have been treated for cancer live out the rest of their lives and die of other causes. However, many others still die from cancer despite undergoing treatment. The treatment only gives them more time to live — years or even decades.

You can do something to make a difference in the lives of women diagnosed with breast cancer in your community. All you have to do is donate an unwanted vehicle to Breast Cancer Car Donations.

We’ll sell your vehicle through an auction and distribute the proceeds to our nonprofit partners. Your generous contribution will help these IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in providing more uninsured and underprivileged breast cancer patients in your community with easy access to top cancer centers in the country.

Our charity partners also provide their beneficiaries with financial assistance to help cover the costs of their treatments, doctor consultations, medications, follow-up care, and other health care services. Other beneficiaries get to receive free breast cancer screening and diagnosis plus prevention and education services.

To show you our appreciation for your charitable contribution, we’ll promptly send you by mail the 100% tax-deductible sales receipt of your vehicle after we sell it. This receipt gives you the right to claim the maximum tax deduction you are entitled to in the next tax season.

We will also haul off your unwanted vehicle for free and at a date and place of your convenience. Take note that we can collect your donation anywhere in the United States since our vehicle donation program covers the entire country.

Plus, you can count on us to process all your paperwork, freeing you from this task.

The best reward you’ll get, however, is the priceless satisfaction you’d feel for doing a life-saving charitable act.

We accept nearly all types of vehicles regardless of their age or condition. Even if the vehicle you’re donating has marks, scratches, or dents, we’ll gladly take it.
